I walked out the main door of my school before class tonight, intent on heading across the street to the Cal State Fullerton campus for snack.  A guy on a bycicle nearly ran me down on the sidewalk.  As he passed, rather than apologizing, he muttered nervously “Earthquake tonight!”   Today, there have been no earthquakes in our area – at least none that I know about.  But if one does happen tonight, well, I heard it from that guy first.

I’ve got two papers for which I need solid drafts by Monday (papers must be finalized and shipped by February 2).  They are briefs for opposing sides of the same patent law issue.  On the first issue, I have solid arguments for both sides.  On the second issue, I’m having trouble finding case law for either side, and this is giving me fits.  ARRRG!   So to any friends or family that hoped to see me this weekend or next, saddly, I must dissapoint you.

Other news – I’m starting to run, again, to try and lower my cholesterol.  Both yesterday and today, I managed three miles in the park.  Yesterday was fine, but today, it hurt.   And thanks again, Cheryl, for the awesome headphones you got me for Christmas.  The fit is perfect, they don’t bounce around, and the chord is just the right length.  Little things like that make it nice to go running.

Chris has had a cold for the last few weeks, but now he’s about 97% well.  The LOST season premier is tonight – I plan to watch it when I get home.

Life is generally pretty good.  But watch out for that earthquake.

My New Year’s Resolution this year is simple, but all encompassing – Better control the things that are within my power, and try not to worry so much about the things that are not. To this end, I’m (again) poking at my various exercise, diet, and study habits.

They say if you do the same thing everyday for 21 days, it will become a habit. I’m on day 3 of getting some exercise in the morning.  I’m starting out with DDR (to be replaced with jogging when I can afford some new running shoes).  As I get into better shape, I’ll add in some work on the Wii Fit board that has been collecting dust in our living room.

Diet is harder, because of my weird school schedule.  I’m very generally trying to eat smaller portions and fewer carbs.

As for homework, I’m not behind in anything yet; of course, I’m not very far ahead either.  Definitely more work to do on that front.

Hope everyone’s new year is going well! I’m off to school.

Ambitious plans, a new hobby, and a new blog to keep track of it all

Happy New Year everybody!  While sitting around the Catan board over Christmas break, I thought about how awesome it would be to have a nice set of stone Catan pieces.  And a nice wood or stone board to play on.  And maybe a custom table to put all the hex pieces in so they wouldn’t slide around.  And, of course, some kind of wicked case to carry it all around in.  And should I update the playing cards to something nicer while I’m at it? Etc., etc., ad infinitum.   And then James got me a Dremel tool for Christmas, at which point it became less of a pie in the sky idea and more of a “well, I guess I have a hobby for the next ten years or so” plan.

I’ve started a new blog to keep all these thoughts in order – Stonecutter.  It will detail my efforts to actually learn how to carve various types of stone, have pictures of the results, and keep track of the various elements involved in the Ultimate Catan Board project.
