Back in action

Filed under: Uncategorized — megs @ 3:08 pm

I’m back in LA now, and have been since January 12. Long story short, the Mudders and I left Portland at 9am after the first day of snow. The weather slowed us down such that we didn’t get over the pass and to Redding until 6:30 that night. I picked up Chris’ car and, with stops in Sacramento, and Stockton to drop off and pick up various people attached to Jacques’ traveling party wagon and shrimp mobile, and powered by more caffeine then I usually drink in a month, we drove through the night to LA. I arrived home at 6:30am. I was really tired, but the car worked, and I was so very happy to be home. Carl, I’m sorry I didn’t hang out with you while I was in town, I’ll catch you next time.

School again started last Tuesday. I’m taking Torts II (more things to sue for!), Contracts II (how much money should I ask for?), and Pro Skills II (OMG Oral Arguments! The final of will be judged by an actual district court judge!) I’m quite busy. Though I have much self-improvement to do in the motivated study department, I have not yet abandoned my New Year’s resolution to become awsome at this law thing.

I will still be working as a library clerk and for Lexis, though I have yet to see a paycheck from the latter. This time it was my fault. When I finally had a working password to access the payroll website, I was so happy to be able to enter and save my seven or eight weeks worth of hours that I forgot to hit the button to actually SUBMIT said hours. It has been resolved, and I hope to see some sweet sweet cash at the end of the month.

Back to the grind! I’m going to see if I can draft a passable settlement letter for Pro. Skills. Dear Sir: Give me your money. Why? Because I’m right, that’s why…

Totally not flunking out!

Filed under: Uncategorized — megs @ 6:40 pm

At long (long, long, long, long, long, long, long, bloody LONG) last my grades have posted! I totally didn’t flunk out – I’m not even on academic probation!

Torts: 2.2
Pro. Skills: 2.5
Contracts: 2.8 (how in the world?)

So I’ve had a few wonderful sighs of relief, and I’m ready to get back to this school thing. Which is good, because it starts up again on Tuesday.

My current location is Portland. Grandma’s memorial brunch was wonderful – many family members came over and we looked at neat old pictures of my grandparents in their younger days. My grandpa playing football and baseball, and he and his brothers in their WWII army uniforms. My grandma with her family. And the two of them on their wedding day.

I’m posting via the brand spankin’ new broadband connection my parents had installed today. Now, they may actually USE their computer, because won’t be like pulling teeth anymore.

Tomorrow, the Mudders and I depart for So. Cal. We’re having a bit of a cold snap up here which could delay our departure but we should be good once we’re on the road. Next post will likely be from LA (again; I hope not to leave for a long while).

Home and gone again

Filed under: Uncategorized — megs @ 8:55 pm

Well, we made it back to LA – we ended up renting a car and driving through. We arrived in time for New Year’s Eve at our place, and had the Eugene ex-pats over for a party. Things have been quite since.

As for recovering Chris’ car, we have a wacky plan. As one might guess from that description, it involves Jacques. My family is having a memorial brunch for my grandmother in Portland on the 7th, which would have been her 84th birthday. I’m taking the train up on Friday (and will arrive on Saturday afternoon, 27 hours later; I will be ecstatic to see, first, my parents and, second, a shower). I’ll hang around Portland until the 11th or so when Jacques and some fellow Mudders will arrive in Portland to pick up a load of shrimp bits for a school project. I will join them as they drive all the way back to LA in a single day. We will stop in Redding, at which point I will recover Chris’ car, and then we will caravan the rest of the way. Depending on how tired I am, I may stop at a hotel somewhere along the way and finish the drive myself. Who knows? It will be an interesting trip, to say the least.

PS: Still no grades. The school says they should be live “in the next few days” which I hope means by Friday.
